Dr. Cathy (Yuan) Hung, DDS, FICD, FACD
Dr. Cathy (Yuan) Hung was born and raised in Taipei, Taiwan’s capital. She lived in Singapore for 2 years, completing high school there before coming to the U.S. at 18. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Minor in Music. She then moved to New York City, attended dental school for 4 years, and graduated from Columbia University with a D.D.S. (Doctor of Dental Surgery) degree. After dental school, she matched into a four-year Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery residency training program at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the Bronx, a Level I trauma center affiliated with Weill Cornell Medical College. She had served as an Assistant Chair of the Department of Dentistry at Centrastate Medical Center, Freehold, New Jersey. She has been treating patients for more than twenty years.
Dr. Hung is an author, speaker, dental editor, and certified life coach. Her book, Pulling Wisdom, is listed at the ADA bookstore as a practice management resource. Her second book, Behind Her Scalpel, inspires more women to pursue oral surgery. Her third book, Guided Wellness Regeneration, on wellness for dental professionals, is expected to be published soon.
Dr. Hung reads, speaks, and writes Mandarin Chinese (both Traditional and Simplified Chinese) fluently. She was a frequently published Chinese writer for magazines and newspapers in her earlier years. At her practice, she frequently conducts bilingual consultations in Mandarin Chinese and English, assisting first- and second-generation Chinese immigrant families in the Greater Princeton area and beyond. Notably, Dr. Hung is the first bilingual Chinese female Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon practicing in the State of New Jersey.
Dr. Hung holds many leadership positions in organized dentistry. She is a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. Only about 3% of the world’s dentists have been inducted into the prestigious ICD by their peers’ nominations. In 2025, Dr. Hung was inducted into the American College of Dentists, which comprises fewer than 4% of American dentists. Dr. Hung currently chairs the Well-being Committee at the New Jersey Dental Association. She is also an NJDA trustee and delegate. On the national level, she is an Alumna of the American Dental Association’s Institute for Diversity in Leadership program and ADA Wellness Ambassador supported by the Council on Dental Practice at the American Dental Association. She has served as a consultant for the Committee on Membership at the American Association of Maxillofacial Surgeons. She was the recipient of Benco Dental’s Lucy Hobb’s Project Humanitarian Award in 2022. In 2023, she received the Presidential Award for her service at the New Jersey Dental Association. She is the current Editor-in-Chief for Communicator, the quarterly newsletter for the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists (AADEJ).
Always learning, Dr. Hung is currently pursuing an MBA in Health Administration at West Texas A&M University’s Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business to further her knowledge.
Dr. Hung is a classically trained pianist and composer who works as an independent musician. She released her first album, “Watercolors,” in December 2013, and her second, “Bay Sound,” in August 2014.
She enjoys traveling, reading, writing music, and cooking. She has two children, both attending college, and a dog named Fiona.
